wall by gina sekelsky studio main Each morning when I arrive at the studio I spend a little time "settling in"--sometimes just making a cup of tea, sometimes brainstorming, and more than once, painting the wall behind my desk.  I moved into this space almost a year ago, and I made some major improvements to the flow of the room in January, but I've really done very little to personalize it. I tend to prefer blank white walls and little distraction. However, I also like to be organized. And I love to think ahead. (Just ask my husband, I'm pretty sure it drives him crazy.) I've tried a few different systems for having a year-at-a-glance on my wall.  Here's the latest: wall by gina sekelsky studio 01 I started by taping around the area where I wanted to paint. No measuring, just eyeballing it. wall by gina sekelsy studio 01a Then I painted an uneven rectangle inside the taped area using paint leftover from my old studio. wall by gina sekelsky studio 02 My original intent was a solid blue-green rectangle, but I ended up leaving the uneven edges and ragging on some ochre. wall by gina sekelsky studio 03 Twelve post-it flags so I'd know just where to paint the months. wall by gina sekelsky studio 04 Tape to help me paint (somewhat) evenly. wall by gina sekelsky studio 05 More tape so I could paint the quote (somewhat) evenly. wall by gina sekelsky studio 06 When I removed the tape, the gap between the quote and the months was staring at me. Hmmm...flowers! wall by gina sekelsky studio 07 Using some old bronze paint from the craft cupboard at home. wall by gina sekelsky studio 09 Kraft colored post-it notes so I can keep track of what I need to do each month (and keep it all in perspective). wall by gina sekelsky studio 08 Ta da!

I love that you did this so unplanned-ly. I wish I could paint my little academic office! (I’ve made the walls into pin-boards instead, at least.

  2. LOVE your Year-at-a-Glance wall, Gina! The flexibility of post-it notes is a great idea, too. I’m the same way about planning ahead! ♡

You inspire me! One of my post-it notes reminds me that getting into my studio every day is a priority, though I don’t always get there. Need to make an appointment with myself every day to make it happen.

    It looks great!
