wolves of willoughby chaseIf you know me even a tiny bit, you know I love reading aloud.  My son and I just finished up The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken.  (You can read a great synopsis here, along with learning some other titles to add to your list.)  This book is in the creative spirit of E. Nesbit and Edward Eager, with engaging children, evil adults, whimsical plots, and a sprinkling of wackiness. Since the protagonists in this book are two young girls in 19th century England, I wasn't sure how it would go over with my 13-year-old-and-all-boy son, but we laughed out loud while reading it.  We enjoyed the beginning and middle more than the end, so we may not follow up with others in the series (in fact, I didn't really know it was a series until I searched it for this post), but it was still a great start to summer vacation. Read more about my favorite read-aloud books here.  And let me know how you're coming along for the 2014 Summer Reading Program!
